Effective April 1, 2026, Eligible1 Enrolled Drivers will have access to a NEW benefit, MetLife Hospital Indemnity Insurance, offered through Drivers Benefits by The Black Car Fund.
Hospital Indemnity Insurance helps by providing you with a direct, lump-sum payment2 to use at your discretion, including paying for expenses that your medical plan may not cover, such as:
Receive a cash benefit of $100 for each day you are in the hospital, plus an additional $65 if you are in the ICU, and a $500 payment for a covered stay2 when you are admitted into the hospital3.
The Drivers Benefits Hospital Indemnity Insurance is paid for by The Black Car Fund, so this coverage is at no cost to you.
Payments are typically processed within 10 business days after you file your claim and are approved.
Only one claim is required per hospital admission or stay3.
As an Eligible1, Enrolled Driver, your Hospital Indemnity Insurance coverage will begin effective April 1, 2026. Download the Drivers Benefits App for more information, including downloadable copies of plan certificates and claim forms.
1You must meet Eligibility Requirements to be enrolled in Drivers Benefits. An eligible driver is either: (i) a driver who is registered with the New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission (NYC TLC) as a driver for a Black Car service and in the prior calendar year has provided service to passengers at least 10 hours per week during the most recent available calendar quarter, with such hours measured from the time a passenger enters a vehicle until such passenger exits the same vehicle, or (ii) a driver is not registered with the NYC TLC and who qualifies as a Transportation Network Company (TNC) or is affiliated with a dispatch base that is a member of The Black Car Fund and in the prior calendar year has received a gross income of at least $4,000 during the most recent available calendar quarter from the provision of service to passengers in the State of New York. Gross revenue is determined based on income that will be reported on a driver's Form 1099. These eligibility standards may be changed by The Black Car Fund upon at least 30 days' notice. Enrolled drivers must continue to meet eligibility requirements to maintain access to the benefits. A Driver shall cease to be an Eligible Driver if said Driver has been found by the Workers’ Compensation Board to be disqualified as a claimant for lost time benefits pursuant to Section 114-a of the New York Workers' Compensation Law.
2Covered services/treatments must be the result of an accident or sickness as defined in the certificate. "Hospital" does not include certain facilities such as nursing homes, convalescent care or extended care facilities. Please consult your certificate for details.
3The Admission Benefit is not payable for Emergency Room treatment or outpatient treatment. The payment of the admission benefit requires a Confinement. Hospital Confinement requires the assignment to a bed as a resident inpatient in a Hospital (including an Intensive Care Unit of a Hospital) on the advice of a Physician or confinement in an observation area within a Hospital for a period of no less than 20 continuous hours on the advice of a Physician. Please consult your certificate for details. When the plan pays an Admission Benefit, the Confinement Benefit may begin to pay on Day 2.
